We just took an overnight trip to check the pulse of Boston's art scene. While it certainly was a whirlwind experience for us, if you can get away for a long weekend sometime, Boston is well worth the trip.

Stretched along a pedestrian-only block of Thayer street in Boston's SoWa neighborhood are the 460 Harrison and 450 Harrison buildings which, together, are home to more than two dozen galleries and more than 75 artists studios and creative enterprises. Most of the galleries are open from Wednesday through Sunday and by appointment, and most tend to be open by 11 AM. Our top picks were Gallery Kayafas, Lanoue Gallery, Soprafina Gallery, and the artist-run space Bromfield Gallery

In addition to the SoWa neighborhood, make sure to schedule enough time during your Boston trip to hit up the Fogg Museum at Harvard, and the Institute of Contemporary Art.  Both have remarkable collections, with the ICA concentrating heavily on work by female artists.
